Today (May 28, 2012) my daughter, Emily, and I brought her mother (Penny) for her birthday hike in the Lake Willoughby region, without a doubt one of the most beautiful areas in the state. Had a great hike with few black flies and no broken bones. We hiked the Herbert Hawkes Trail off of the CCC Road for our first time. This trail is far under-rated. It’s a nice, leisurely hike with a couple good lookouts. — Scott Wheeler/Publisher
