Come daylight this morning (Saturday), these “folks” were welcoming people to the village of Orleans. There truly are some interesting characters among them. This week’s Chronicle says the scare crows are from the Karen Chaffee collection. — Scott
The EB5 debacle, which encompassed the Jay Peak and Burke Mountain Resorts, has been big news in recent months. However, that isn’t what my post is about. As the publisher of Vermont’s Northland Journal, I have delivered to, and worked with, Jay Peak for upwards of 15 years, and more recently I have been delivering to Burke Mountain. One thing that has always struck me about both resorts is the absolute friendliness of the employees I meet during my visits. I’m talking about just the ordinary good workers who love their jobs and who are working to make ends meet. (Believe me, over the years I have been to a number of businesses where the employees weren’t happy and it showed). I spent time at both resorts in recent days, and despite all the employees have gone through in recent months – their world turned upside down, not knowing if they were going to be out of a job or not – they were as friendly as ever. I commend the employees of both resorts for not only holding down the fort during the upheaval, but for providing visitors with an amazing experience. — Scott
