Joe Queenin of Derby Line, and Charlie Smith of Hardwick, were friends many years ago when they refereed basketball games around the Northeast Kingdom. Queenin served in the Marines and was involved in the battle of Okinawa. Mr. Smith was a tank commander in Europe. Photo by Scott Wheeler

Ted Chaffee (sitting), was accompanied to the event by his daughter, Donna. His appearance was probably the biggest surprise for organizers since he has been battling an illness that has kept him housebound. However, the proud WW II veteran who served in the Navy, wanted to attend the celebration. Also seen in the photo is one of the event's organizers, and friend of Mr. Chaffee, Scott Wheeler of Derby.
