These three men met at the event and learned they have a lot in common – they were all involved in the D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944. Joe Queenin of Derby Line, and Charlie Smith of Hardwick, were friends many years ago when they refereed basketball games around the Northeast Kingdom. Queenin served in the Marines and was involved in the battle of Okinawa. Mr. Smith was a tank commander in Europe. Photo by Scott Wheeler

Ted Chaffee (sitting), was accompanied to the event by his daughter, Donna. His appearance was probably the biggest surprise for organizers since he has been battling an illness that has kept him housebound.
